Gaining Registration as a Primary Teacher

Gaining registration as a Primary teacher is a complex issue because of the breadth of the Primary curriculum and the pedagogy used in teaching primary children.

To help teachers make this move, Aberdeen University have developed an on-line CPD course. This is a 60 credit, Master level course and is offered across Scotland.  The course has been accredited by GTC Scotland.  Information on the course can be obtained from Lorna Glen at l.glen@abdn.ac.uk

Eligibility

To gain professional registration as a primary teacher, eligible teachers will be required to demonstrate that they:

  • have undertaken an agreed CPD programme to develop their professional knowledge/skills and ability to teach curriculum in the nursery/primary sector
  • have achieved the The Standard for Full Registration

Before submitting an application to gain registration, teachers should

  • arrange to gain primary teaching experience with their primary/secondary liaison co-ordinator
  • arrange to visit a local nursery school class
  • contact the EAR Department at GTC Scotland to discuss the Primary curriculum CPD modules/programme
