The Programme Route

The Programme Route is often referred to as the module route because it involves teachers undertaking a structured course of study with an one of the Accredited Chartered Teacher Providers.

Teachers are required to complete a total of 12 modules (a total of 180 credit points) before making a claim for the Professional Award of Chartered Teacher to GTC Scotland.

After completing Module 1 Self Evaluation, teachers are required to complete a further:

  • 3 core modules
  • 4 option modules
  • and the equivalent of 4 modules for a work-based project

Teachers may also claim a maximum 50% (6 modules) of the Chartered Teacher programme as prior learning.

Keeping a record of progress

All teachers following the programme route are required to keep a record of their progress in a Module Log

The information entered into the log will enable them to create a history of modules completed and must be presented for all modules when making the application for the Professional Award of Chartered Teacher.
