Professional Conduct

GTC Scotland was established under the Teaching Council (Scotland) Act 1965 as the regulatory body for teachers. Our role as regulatory body is to ensure the fitness of teachers to teach in any of Scotland's schools.

We have a legal duty to regulate teachers in the public interest and to adjudicate complaints in connection with:

All complaints against a teacher must follow the formal investigation process and all  Disciplinary hearings are held in public. Both forthcoming hearings and outcomes of hearings are posted on the site.

The Professional Practice Department oversees the Council's regulatory role.
