Misconduct
GTC Scotland concerns itself with conduct which could seriously call into question a teacher's integrity or position of trust in relation to children and young people.
Allegations of relevant misconduct can be received from a number of sources.
-
Teaching Council (Scotland) Act 1965 states that GTC Scotland must be notified by an employer of a registered teacher if they dismiss a teacher on the grounds of misconduct or if they resign in circumstances where, had it not been for their resignation, they may have been dismissed.
- Members of the public can make a complaint against a registered teacher if they have a serious concern about that teacher's professional conduct. See
Making a Complaint.
- Non-conviction information may be made available to GTC Scotland on an Enhanced Disclosure when a person applies for registration.
All alleged cases of relevant misconduct will follow the formal
investigation process.
