Congratulations to Matthew MacIver who has been awarded a professorship by the University of the Highlands and Islands in honour of his work in education and for the Gaelic language.
Matthew will work in the area of Gaelic education supporting the university in this area.
He said: "I am honoured and thrilled to be awarded this professorship by UHI.
"UHI does important work offering learning opportunities to people across the Highlands and Islands, the area in which I grew up and that is still close to my heart. To have the opportunity to be involved with an organisation doing this is very exciting.
"Secondly, this is a crucial time for Gaelic in Scotland as we seek to stabilise the language and grow it for future generations. It is significant that UHI is recognising the importance of Gaelic and I am pleased and grateful to see that."
UHI principal, Professor Robert Cormack, said: "These three new professorships were approved by our Academic Council and honour three outstanding public servants whose work and support for UHI will prove invaluable in our development towards university title."
