#1minPL - Professional Standards

Charlaine Simpson, Senior Education Officer

GTC Scotland has developed and published a suite of Professional Standards which can be used for individuals to reflect upon their own ‘professionalism’.

The Standard(s) used by practitioners will depend upon where they are in their Teacher Journey.

The Standard for Registration provides the benchmark to become a fully qualified teacher.

The Standard for Career-long Professional learning provides an aspirational standard to use throughout a teacher’s journey as they continue to develop skills, knowledge and attributes to support positive outcomes for children and young people.

The Standard for Leadership and Management lays the foundations for professionalism and challenges in leadership which are required by all middle leaders and headteachers.

All of the Standards are underpinned by the themes of professional values, sustainability and leadership. Professional values are demonstrated through all of our professional relationships and practices and are at the core of professional leadership.
