At the heart of the national model for professional learning is teachers engaging with research and developing as enquiring professionals.
Critical engagement in and with educational research, literature, theory and enquiry to inform and challenge thinking and professional actions is embedded across GTC Scotland’s Professionals Standards.
The Professional Values expect that all registered teachers in Scotland are committed to:
- critically examining their own beliefs and values;
- challenging their assumptions and professional practice;
- lifelong enquiry, learning, professional development and leadership as core aspects of professionalism and collaborative practice.
From the earliest phase of the learning journey teachers are expected to access, engage with and apply findings from educational research and systematically engage in research to challenge and inform practice.
