Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 came into force on 1st January 2005.

It is intended to promote a culture of openness and accountability amongst public sector bodies and provides a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, including GTC Scotland.

Publication Scheme

We are required to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme and to keep it under regular review. The publication scheme provides details of:

  • The classes of information which the Council publishes or intends to publish
  • The manner in which information within each class is, or is intended to be published; and
  • Whether the material is, or is intended to be, available free of charge or on payment

Our publication scheme has been approved by the Scottish Information Commissioner. We are required to publish the publication scheme and make the information listed within it generally available.

Individual Requests for Information

Any information not made available through our publication scheme can be requested under the Act, subject to certain exemptions. An example of this might be where information is covered by the Data Protection Act 1998 or where information is of a commercially sensitive nature.

If you have any difficulties in finding information or wish to request information not listed in the Council's publication scheme, please email our Customer Services Helpdesk or call (0131) 314 6080
