Teaching in the Primary Sector

In Scotland, the age range of children in Primary Education is 3-12 years of age.

There are three types of courses that you can take to qualify as a primary school teacher in Scotland:

  1. the four year undergraduate programmes such as the Bachelor of Education or combined degrees
  2. the one-year Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), completed after a degree
  3. part-time PGDE course, usually done in partnership with certain local authorities

Further information on these courses and the entry requirements can be found on the individual Scottish Universities websites.
