Appointment of Council Member

The Role involves:

  • Contributing to the development of the teaching profession and the quality of teaching and learning in Scotland
  • Helping to promote high standards of teaching by contributing to the development of GTC Scotland policy at Council and committee meetings
  • Upholding professional standards by taking part in the investigation or hearing of regulatory cases
  • Acting as an advocate for teachers, teaching and GTC Scotland through Council networks and events
  • Contributing to the strategy of GTC Scotland and planning for its future as an independent, self-regulating body
  • Ensuring that GTC Scotland itself runs effectively and efficiently and makes good use of teachers' registration fees.

The successful Candidate will:

  • Be able to make balanced judgements and sound decisions
  • Have effective presentation, listening and communication skills
  • Be able to speak confidently in a large group
  • Be able to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Have an interest in improving the quality of teaching and learning in Scotland's schools and colleges
  • Have knowledge and competence in one or more of the following areas:
    • the interests of parents of pupils
    • the interests of commerce or industry
    • the teaching of children or young persons with additional support needs
