Appointment of Council Member
The Role involves:
- Contributing to the development of the teaching profession and the quality of teaching and learning in Scotland
- Helping to promote high standards of teaching by contributing to the development of GTC Scotland policy at Council and committee meetings
- Upholding professional standards by taking part in the investigation or hearing of regulatory cases
- Acting as an advocate for teachers, teaching and GTC Scotland through Council networks and events
- Contributing to the strategy of GTC Scotland and planning for its future as an independent, self-regulating body
- Ensuring that GTC Scotland itself runs effectively and efficiently and makes good use of teachers' registration fees.
The successful Candidate will:
- Be able to make balanced judgements and sound decisions
- Have effective presentation, listening and communication skills
- Be able to speak confidently in a large group
- Be able to work effectively as a member of a team
- Have an interest in improving the quality of teaching and learning in Scotland's schools and colleges
- Have knowledge and competence in one or more of the following areas:
- the interests of parents of pupils
- the interests of commerce or industry
- the teaching of children or young persons with additional support needs
