GTC Scotland gives evidence to Calman Commission

The new Chief Executive of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Tony Finn gave evidence to the Calman Commission on Tuesday, 14 October.

Issues covered in the session held at the Scottish Parliament included:

  • the devolution settlement and its impact on the GTC Scotland
  • systems for regulation
  • promotion of quality in the teaching profession
  • relationships between GTCs across the UK and other regulatory bodies

Speaking after the session Tony Finn said:

"We were pleased to be able to give evidence to the Calman Commission and be part of discussions about the political and cultural landscape in Scotland.

"The GTC Scotland has made great progress in many areas and I am keen to continue that progress in the months ahead. It is important that our organisation is involved in discussions like those being held by the Calman Commission.

"The GTC Scotland is central to the continued success and quality of the teaching profession in Scotland and therefore has a key role to play in the development of future generations and, ultimately, the economic and social well being of Scotland."
